What is the Painting Tile?
Introduction of Painting Tiles (miniature tiles):
Miniature tile is one of the traditional arts whose history goes back to countries like Iran, India, and Turkey. This type of tile is one of the traditional tile models. To produce miniature tiles, artists draw and paint images that usually have a religious, historical, mythological, or natural theme on pieces of tile. Miniature tiles have a special place in the art of traditional and Iranian tiling.
History of Painting Tiles (miniature art) in Iran:
This art is derived from the Latin word minimum natural, and it means nature reduced. This word entered the words of the Persian language in the Qajar period and following the influence of the Persian language from the French language. Some narratives consider the history of this art to be related to pre-Islam and Mani's paintings in the Sassanid period. After that, in the Islamic era, this art went through many changes with different cultural and artistic influences from the East and the West, and different schools such as the Tabriz school, the Baghdad school, the Shiraz school, the Mozaffarian school, the Timurian school, and the Qajar school came into.
Production of Painting Tiles (miniature tiles):
Although the design, materials, tools and production methods of miniature tiles have changed since the past, the overall production process has not changed much. To produce miniature tiles, first body tiles, which are known as tile biscuits, are spread on the ground. Then, using colored glazes, they transfer the designs and colors onto the tiles. After the initial drying of the glazes, the tiles are placed in the oven at a temperature of about 900 degrees Celsius to bake the glazes and stabilize the colors. By going through this stage, the design and color will be completely resistant to natural and human erosion, and it will be ready for installation.
Application of Painting Tiles (miniature tiles):
The miniature tile can be used individually or in combination with other tiles. In the case of combining miniature tiles, it is necessary to consider the compatibility between the background tile and the miniature tile. For example, if the background tile is white, blue, or light, use a miniature tile with warm, dark colors to create contrast. Or, if the floor tile design is simple, use miniature tiles with intricate designs to add more appeal to the space.
Even today, people's interest in the beauty of this art has led to the use of miniature tiles in public buildings and residential houses. The use of this traditional art in contemporary buildings shows the high capacity of this art.
